How UAE car plate number value works

Emirate, plate code, digit count and pattern explained — the four things that decide what a UAE car plate is worth.

UAE plate prices look unpredictable until you know what buyers are actually paying for. Four factors do most of the work, and they apply in every emirate.

1. The emirate that issued the plate Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain are separate markets with their own formats, supply and buyer demand. The same digits are not worth the same amount everywhere, which is why any valuation has to start with the emirate. Browse each market to see the difference: Dubai , Abu Dhabi , Sharjah .

2. How many digits Digit count is the strongest single factor. Each digit removed makes a plate substantially rarer, and prices step up sharply from five digits down to one. Five-digit plates form the entry level in most emirates, four-digit plates sit clearly above them, three digits is collector territory, and one and two digit plates are trophy assets that rarely come to market.

3. The plate code Codes are not interchangeable. In Dubai, the single-letter codes and earliest series are scarcer than later ones and buyers pay a premium for them. In Abu Dhabi, the code number carries much of the plate's identity. Always include your exact code when valuing a plate, because the same digits under two codes can price very differently.

4. The pattern After length and code, buyers pay for shape: repeated digits such as 7777, sequential runs such as 1234, mirrored pairs such as 1221, round thousands such as 5000, and single digits. Five unrelated digits price closest to the emirate baseline.

Demand moves prices too Even with the same emirate, code, length and pattern, asking prices move with the market. When several similar plates are listed at once, sellers soften; when a rare code or length is absent, they hold. That is why a valuation should be based on what is listed now rather than a price you heard a year ago.

Estimate your own plate The free UAE plate value estimator compares your plate against active listings from the same emirate, adjusts for code, digit count and pattern, and returns a low, fair and high range in AED with the sample size it used. The full methodology explains how the anchors and pattern scores are built.

An estimate is an indicative market range based on asking prices, not an offer to buy, and not a valuation for insurance, financing or legal purposes. Official plate ownership transfers are handled by the relevant emirate's traffic authority under its own rules and fees.
